Reflection 2


LEARN AND LEARN
Being a teacher needs some skills that should be mastered. Last week, I learn about stimulus variation skills and questioning skills. Both of them are really help me. Stimulus variation skills have some purposes which are stimulate the students and increase their active participation. It consists of teacher movement, teacher gesture, teacher voice, teacher silence, interaction style, eye contact and movement, and focusing. This skill help me to learn how to act when I being a teacher in the classroom. I should consider about those kinds of variation skills in order to have success teaching and learning process. In this section, I also learn how to give right reinforcement to the students’ participation. It means that we can use verbal reinforcement and non-verbal reinforcement. By saying, “Good! Great! or Yes, you are right!” it will help the teacher show a positive feedback to the students and the result is students will more enthusiastic in following the lesson.
Next, I learn about questioning skills where the purposes are increase the students’ participation in their teaching-learning interaction and develop the students’ active way of thinking and learning. It is the way how the teacher will deliver some question to the students. The students will not be bored because of the same question that teacher asked to them but they are asked some variation questions so they will more be critic in answering the questions.
In that meeting, I did a little simulation in group. Each of group consists of 4 people. My topic in that day is about “Asking and Giving Direction”. I prepare some handout which consists of summary and some questions related to the topic. I use those two skills. In the end of the simulation, my friends give me some feedback; some of them say that “I should be louder when speaking”. So, in the next simulation I will be more confident and louder. I hope that, in this micro teaching I can improve my skills in teaching so that later when I do PPL and being a teacher, I could teach my students well with apply those skills. ^^

My Reflection


My Reflection in Micro Teaching Class
Last week was my first time to enter the lab in order to have Micro Teaching Class. This is my step to practice to be a teacher. I have learned many things in the classroom.  We indentify what are the characteristics of a good teacher. Based on the sharing in the class, I can know that to be a teacher should have good influence to the students. Those some characteristics; open, warm, friendly, charismatic, professional, objective, creative, discipline, interactive, and respects others. If teacher can give good example to the students, later the students will imitate what the teacher did.
Second point, we learn about skill practice. I practice in small group with my friend, how to set induction and set closure. Set induction skills have some purposes. One of them that is create atmosphere in such way that students interest. First, greetings are considered to open the class. Next, I can reference to past learning and relate between the previously-learned subject and the new one. Then, introduce the new topic to the students. Besides that, to end learning activity, we do set closure. It will also prepare students for a new subject and give them assignment about the topic related course of that day.
I use “Narrative text” for my topic. When I did small practice, there are some points that worked and did not work. In the set induction, I did greetings and relate the topic to my own experience but I can’t reference to past learning since I don’t have an assumption about what topic that the students had achieve in the previous learning. For the set closure, I asked the students to resume about the topic that we have learned together. Then, give assignment for them to write down Narrative Text based on the picture that on the textbook.
I evaluate myself, I need more practice how to deliver set induction and set closure well because sometimes I should think first in long minute before I deliver to the students, so it’s like I should remember what I have to say, it doesn’t work smoothly. I hope I can manage and do the same more better.
